Home Directory read-only on fresh install, no boot

My user's home directory ~ is read only on a fresh first-time Zorin Core installation.
Only os on the machine - installed by "erase whole disk" option.

After a reboot, Zorint won't boot at all, after selecting "Zorin" in the boot manager, only the busybox prompt shows up.

Zorin is based on Ubuntu so the fixes should work, if not a failing drive.
