how do i improve performance on zorin os pro i just switched from windows 11 and my pc is feeling pretty slow
i have an i7-8700k rtx 4070 super and 16GB of ram
is the driver working properly for you Nvidia card? Let's have a look. Open the terminal and type;
sudo apt install inxi
inxi -Ga
Please post the output of the second command.

i should mention i recently put this pc back together while waiting for my new water cooler for my newer pc im not sure if the motherboard needs an update and idk if that would effect performance. i was also considering switching to zorin os on my new pc whenever i get it fixed but im still unsure if i should switch or not
The driver looks okay. You could try switch between xorg and wayland to see if performance improving.
You switch between the two display protocols by logging out, click username. A cog should appear, click it and pick one.
How's the game(s) performing or other 3D extensive apps?
what zorin app would you recommend for monitoring fps. I just switched to wayword and my discord still feels really slow and can't really stream stuff. idk my fps but i was playing hytale on the lowest graphics and it felt slow and sometimes choppy
Update: Hytale is running bad on wayland really choppy
Switch back to xorg and try one of the previous driver instead of 580. Try driver 550 for starters.
How long has it been installed?
What you are describing sounds unusual to me. Your specs can do better than that on Zorin OS.
I think Storm is likely correct about Graphics - but... Often, some odd corruption that happened during install causes these low performance issues.
If this is a fresh install - I would wipe and reinstall and see if that clears it all up.
What I would do different is install while offline, instead of "Download additional drivers during install", then setup any additional updates and drivers after fully installing.
That alone can save headaches.
Hmm ... could it be that maybe the internal Graphics of the CPU is used? Try the Command sudo prime-select nvidia to set Your Nvidia Graphics Card as primary Device.
so last night i noticed its my cpu usage maxing out whenever i interact with discord steam any games and sometimes if i have to many tabs open but discord and steam are making my cpu jump from 30% usage to 100% whenever i move my mouse over them and interact with them
Update: so i just downloaded psensor and i guess the cores of my cpu are at 90 degrees Celsius so that may be the issue might be a hardware issue sorry to waste y'alls time
update 2: the radiator is cold so im assuming my pump isn't running
says error no integrated gpu detected
i just downloaded zorin os on maybe the 20th it was really recent i did download the free version then upgraded to the pro version thinking maybe that would help idk i probably should have done more research before switching over
You could take a Look in Your BIOS and check if the Header where the Pump is connected shows Activity.
Yes, I would still try reinstalling the O.S.
That said... Nvidia loves to dump processes onto the CPU. I recommend using one of these drivers: 550, 570, 575, 580. The others dump processing onto the CPU, without mercy.
Again, you are not experiencing something that is normal - and should not be experiencing it.
sounds good i will reinstall i used a spare cpu cooler and now the temps are better and everything is running better now i think the pump went out on the other one it was pretty old
i ended up throwing in a spare water cooler and everything is running much better now the temps are down to the 30 to 40s
