[How do] I test my webcam?

Sometimes, a person needs to test and check webcam ability, before the Zoom meeting for that job interview.
Knowing ahead of time can make a difference between being prepared and dealing with an emergency.

I am sharing this link to hopefully help others find an issue before it finds them.

I must be far behind the times, since when did job interviews, require a camera to do zoom interviews? Last time I applied for a job, it involved filling out an application form, and giving it to the secretary at the job office, then waiting for the call.

If I got the call, and my application accepted, then I physically came in for the interview. That was the SOP, thats is how it was done. Thank goodness I run my own business now days, the GenZ & GenA SOP of doing things, would cause me to melt down.

Another tool is cheese, which is a GNOME-based webcam application that can also be used from the command line. You can install cheese using your distribution’s package manager. Once installed, you can use the following command to test your webcam: cheese. This will launch the cheese application, which will display a video feed from your webcam. Quoted from:

Your link does test on the web, which cheese doesn't do, but cheese is good for testing if your webcam works on your system and might be a useful troubleshooting step. Thanks for your link!

You can also just log onto Zoom by yourself in a fake "meeting" and test out your camera.
