Hey everyone ![]()
I wanted to share my experience installing Zorin OS 18 Core on my Lenovo IdeaPad S145 (Ryzen 3 3300U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) — because honestly, it was quite a ride!
So here’s what happened:
Initially, I tried installing Linux Mint and even Windows 10, but both installers showed that my SSD was corrupted or unmountable. Every time I tried to partition or install, I ran into strange errors or the system would boot into BusyBox. I almost gave up, thinking my SSD had gone bad.
Then I decided to give Zorin OS a try — and somehow, it worked! ![]()
Here’s what I did step-by-step:
- I used EtchDroid on my Android phone to create a Zorin OS bootable USB. (Honestly, this app saved me when my PC couldn’t handle other boot makers properly.)
- Booted into the Zorin installer and manually created partitions instead of using the automatic option.
- Deleted all old Linux Mint and Windows partitions, then created:
- one root (
/) partition (ext4) - one swap partition
- and left a little free space unallocated
- The installation went smoothly this time — no errors, no crashes.
- After rebooting, Zorin OS loaded perfectly and recognized my SSD with no issues!
Now my laptop feels faster and smoother than it ever did with Windows or Mint. I’m genuinely surprised that Zorin installed successfully where other OSes failed.
