How to add desktop icons?

How can I add desktop
Icons to the desktop? When I try to add the icon to the desktop, it puts it in a weird folder and I can’t find it.

I guess you already have enable icons on Desktop?
You need to go to ~/.local/share/applications (which is hidden in your home directory or if the app is installed system wide /usr/share/applications and copy the .desktop file(s) to Your ~/Desktop directory.

What DE are you using? Are you still using the standard Gnome?

You should still be able to go to start menu, find the program and right click, add to desktop

What does DE mean?

DE = Desktop Environment, eg. Gnome/KDE/XFCE/-budgie etc.
