[HOW TO] How to get the EA App working into steam

To update the EA App you need to do the following.

  1. Right click on your EA App name in steam and select settings
  2. Change the following path from
    Target:

"/home/YOUR USERNAME HERE/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/YOUR FOLDER NUMBER HERE/pfx/drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/EA Desktop/EA Desktop/EADesktop.exe"

to

"/home/YOUR USERNAME HERE/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/YOUR FOLDER NUMBER HERE/pfx/drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/EA Desktop/EA Desktop/EAUpdater.exe"

  1. Save and hit play
  2. You see now a black screen downloading the updated files. The black screen will go away BUT does not update your app.
  3. Right click on your EA App again and revert the changes back from Point 2. DO NOT RUN THE EA APP AT THIS POINT.
  4. Go to your home folder, unhide the files (ctrl +h)
  5. Navigate to /home/YOUR USERNAME HERE/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/YOUR FOLDER NUMBER HERE/pfx/drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/EA Desktop/
  6. You noticed there is another folder in their besides EA Deskop and VC (StagedEADesktop). Copy all the contents from the StagedEADesktop folder into the EA Desktop folder. Overwrite all the files.
  7. Go back to steam and run your EA App.
  8. Enjoy!
