My vision is not the best, and I find it hard to read the tiny text in the omnibox where I type URLs. Is it at all possible to increase it? I'm using Brave and Zorin OS lite 17.2
Is increasing the DPI in Settings > Appearance > Fonts > DPI
an option? This will increase the size of everything.
If you want to increase just Font Sizes, you can increase just the font under the same tab, selecting the Default font and Default Monospace Font and increasing the size on each. I have mine set to 10. You might try 12 or 14.
Reboot after making settings changes or log out and in to test.
Font of everything changed, except the omnibox !
I'll need to look into this further.
Brave Browser is protective of some elements, styling them from their own internal files - including that box due to it containing their Brave Rewards Icon.
This is a thorn in Braves paw since many users ask how to remove that annoying icon and Brave stomps its feet and declares it off-limits to prying users.
The addressbar also acts as an entry
field...
The extensive customization possibilities is one of the reasons I still prefer Firefox, despite there being plenty of things not to like about it.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything about how to do this with Brave. Over in their forums there are a few threads asking about this exact same topic, but only workarounds were offered.
One that seem to work best is enabling "Touch UI Layout" in brave:/flags
.
Ok, I enabled touch ui layout, but the font size is the same tiny characters. Am I missing something?
Yes, Firefox! Prior to retirement I was a Vision Support Technician, modifying texts for Blind and Low-vision students and had to advise the use of Firefox for students using NVDA screen reader. You see the Mozilla Foundation, in spite of the same concerns I share with @zenzen is that it has extensive support for users with low-vision issues.
Perhaps is best to ask in their forums directly about this, since this is a Brave-specific issue:
Well, looks like I was wrong about Firefox. A lot has changed. The way it could be done in the past was to edit a 'userChrome.css' file in .mozilla profile folder - which does not exist anymore! @Aravisian is the .css expert when it comes to theming.
The only changes I have made is via this option:
and Advanced option:
Whilst Ctrl+ Mouse wheel to zoom the page, entering in the 'search bar' that appears in the default Firefox Page jumps to the main browser search bar! Mozilla has lost the plot!
There was a program designed for low-vision users but only works on Windows, and that is WebbIE which basically strips all paraphernalia for just text. Just tried running in WINE and it is a non-starter!
After applying ComicSansMS to Web Pages, this is how the Zorin forum main page looks like:
The file doesn't exist by default but you can create it and it will work as expected. For the address bar, you need to target .urlbar-input-box
. For example:
.urlbar-input-box {
font-size: 22px;
}
Here's my customization:
Why did you hijack my topic and turned it into Firefox, when my question is about Brave? I'm not interested in Firefox at all.
Why did everyone hijack my topic and turned it into Firefox, when my question is about Brave? I'm not interested in Firefox at all.
We're talking about a customization feature from Brave and comparing it with the equivalent of a competitor product. Not entirely off-topic, is it? And it was just two replies out of a total of ten; hardly a hijack...
