HP Printer Install HP DeskJet 4155e

I have been trying to set up my DeskJet 4155e to be able to print. Ive followed the instructions listed on the HP Linux website here Installer Walkthrough | hp's Developer Portal

I am trying to set this printer up by connecting it to my laptop with a USB cable. After following the steps on the HP website, I see the printer in my printer settings, however when I open the HP Device Manager and click on wireless/wifi setup using USB, the application stops responding.

In the terminal I used the command hp-check -t and got the following:

/usr/bin/hp-check:685: SyntaxWarning: "is not" with a literal. Did you mean "!="?
if 'getfacl' not in g and '' is not g and 'file' not in g:

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:

  1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
  2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
  3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Check types:
a. EXTERNALDEP - External Dependencies
b. GENERALDEP - General Dependencies (required both at compile and run time)
c. COMPILEDEP - Compile time Dependencies
d. [All are run-time checks]

Done.

I am new to linux and am not sure what it is I need to do next. Im using Zorin OS 17.3 Core on a Dell latitude 5520. Can anyone provide any insight?

Welcome to the Forum!

So, you connected it with Cable but You want use it wireless? Why You don't use it directly wireless?

@Ponce-De-Leon I don't know if the same applies as it used to on older version of Windows. Before you could connect wirelessly, you had to connect via USB to allocate an IP address! Crazy I know!

Doing a quick search on the internet I found this on a Smart Technician's page:

"Hello, this is Sam the Tech, welcome to Just answer website, i am sorry you are having issues with your printer

First, please consider power cycling your printer, Unplug Your printer's power cable then Press and hold pressing your printer's power button twice for 30 seconds then Re-plug your printer's power cable and turn on.

you can get the IP by going to reports then print configuration page..

for setup please click on the video link below to watch a step by step setup video:

how to find the IP address if you can't print configuration page please click on the video link below to watch:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N96PKujHSjw&feature=youtu.be"

I would follow the advice above, then open a terminal and enter:

sudo system-config-printer

(you will be asked for your login password to do this).
When the interface opens, click on 'Add' then on the next window that opens, select Network Printer and choose App Socket/HPJetDirect - in the right pane at the top, enter the ip address you managed to print out following the guide I found above.
Hopefully this should get your printer connected.
