I can't upload or download photos

(First use of Linux Zorin OS 16.3)
I can't upload or download any photos even I changed the browser Firefox to Google Chrome.
When I try do that, the page freeze and topped with a very transparent page.
unfortunately I can't even upload a photo of this problem

How did you install Google Chrome browser? If you used the Software Store, please use the Store to look at the Source on the Google Chrome page in the store.

I installed from their website directly.

Ok. What I am trying to find out is what package format was it installed as:
Snap
Flatpak
or APT (.deb pacakge)

or APT (.deb pacakge)

hmmm...
Did you install Zorin OS on this machine (do you have normal user permissions)?
Does the file manager have any other issues opening an "Open as" or "Save as" dialogue window?

this a photo of this problem

I have all permissions to modify
this is the only problem that I affront until now when I try to upload or download a photo .

What graphics are you using?

sudo lshw -C video

This is a strange one. I do not believe i have ever seen this particular issue before.

If you're trying to upload an image file to the Zorin forum, you can save the image file to your Desktop, scale your browser so you can see the image file on your Desktop next to the browser, then drag the image file over onto the box where you type the text... it'll upload the file and set up the link to it automatically.

If that's not working, perhaps try sudo apt purge'ing Chrome and downloading it again, or use a Chromium variant. I use SRWare Iron and it works perfectly... it is Chrome, just with all the corporate spyware neutered.

Just download the .deb file to your desktop, double-click it, the Software application will open and you'll see a button to install.

Ubuntu 18.04 unable to open/save files

Hi,
This is a new install of 18.04 on a Macbook Pro machine. I am unable to open or save files from within applications. Two examples:

  • Atom editor - File->OpenFile... hangs Atom. The screen darkens but no file dialog is shown. The only way forward it to kill Atom via System Monitor
  • Firefox - downloading a .png file displays the file within Firebox. Right clicking and Save Image... hangs Firefox - the Firefox window darkens but no file dialog is displayed. The only way forward is to kil Firefox via the System Monitor

In both cases, I have checked to see if the file open or file save dialog is being displayed off screen in another workspace - it is not.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Regards,
[ubuntu] Ubuntu 18.04 unable to open/save files

I recall another MacBook user had reported this some months back now that your post jogs my memory.
I need to try to remember to ask if the user is on a MacBook in future if I see this issue again...
