I have a pretty high-end gaming rig but Zorin feels really slow and I can't get Steam to play games?

Hi there,
Here is my PC Specs...
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ Ultra 9 24 Core Processor 275HX (Up to 5.4 GHz) 36MB Cache
Memory (RAM)
96GB Corsair 5600MHz SODIMM DDR5 (2 x 48GB)
Graphics Card
NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 5090 - 24GB GDDR7 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.2
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB CRUCIAL T705 GEN 5 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 14,500MB/sR, 12,700MB/sW)
2nd M.2 SSD Drive
1TB SAMSUNG 990 PRO M.2, PCIe 4.0 NVMe (up to 7450MB/R, 6900MB/W)

I wanted to escape windows 11, as I don't like how unstable it is and don't need all the windows apps and bloat seeing as I just use this pc for gaming. So I brought Zorin 18 pro as it had some good reviews and I really like the look of the trial( didn't install steam using the trial, my mistake!).

My problem, is that it runs very slow! All the apps take forever to load and I can't even load GTA now??? I have installed the Nvidia proprietary driver and I have used the terminal to ensure everything is up-to-date driver and software-wise. Yet it is really sluggish, alot worse than windows? Did I forget something or do something wrong???

ALSO, another gripe. Why is the window for the steam errors so darn small! Is it because my native resolution for my display is 3840x2400? If so, can someone pleeeease tell me how to change it!

Many Thanks in advance!
Sam

Hello,

Can you please provide the info of this command;

sudo apt install inxi
inxi -Ga

With your specs, you should not be seeing slowness.

In addition to @Storm's request, can you also check your Error Logs?

journalctl -p err -b -x

Check if secure boot and fast boot in your BIOS are disabled.
If you have a Dualboot with Windows also disable fast startup in the energy settings of Windows.
With your up-to-date hardware you may need a later kernel.

Welcome to the Forum!

Because Your Hardware is so new, I would also suggest to try a new Kernel like @Forpli already suggested.

What Nvidia Driver do You use? And because You have a Nvidia Card, I would recommend to switch to Xorg if not already done. To do that, go to the Login Screen. click on Your Profile so that the Password Field appears. When it is appeared, You should see a Gear Icon in the bottom right Corner. Click on it and choose the Option ''Zorin Desktop on Xorg'' and log in.

Because of Steam: Do you use the Flatpak or the .deb Version from the Repo? I would suggest to try the .deb Version directly from Steam:
