I love Star Trek, and my username is Startreker. I found an awesome top/down picture with Earth bellow, of the Sovereign class vessel, known in Star Trek First Contact, as the Enterprise E, commanded by Jon Luc Picard.
In most forum websites, they give you a bottom field, to add something known as, your signature. Unfortunately, the Zorin brother's wanted to be different, and start a new forum website, that doesn't come with a field to add a signature. I however, always loved them, its a nice way to express oneself. I simply added my username to the photo, and I add mine manually.
Plus, if someone has the same interests in Star Trek that I do, its a great way to find each other, so we can bond in shared interests. Anyways, hope that explains it.
Hi Startreker,
A couple of Essenger songs - one space related, the other A.I. related.
@StarTreker I don't think the person you answered to (@DavidA) said they hoped to see AI in Linux, instead they were saying the reason some people switch to Linux is not to have genAI in their computer!
And that would be me too, I've always been kind of interested in Linux along the years, tried it a few times without sticking with it but it is the force-feeding of Copilot by Windows into everything the OS does (especially in Win 11) that finally got me to seriously switch.
Now all my home computers have Zorin OS and I'm trying to make the switch at work too, but it's difficult, because work has been "bought" by Microsoft somehow..
If ZorinOS ever implements genAI (hopefully not) I'll move to another OS, like I moved from Firefox to Vivaldi with no regrets!
Edit, adding this quote from Wikipedia because that would have been me:
Following Microsoft's end of support for the Windows 10 operating system in October 2025, and partly due to the high Windows 11 system requirements, privacy concerns and backlash against integrated AI features, Zorin OS received 1 million downloads in five weeks as an alternative operating system.
I think it was a slight oversight on @StarTreker 's post - he separated out the paragraphs and possibly forgot to add @? - the original poster appears to have disappeared from view. It looks like the original poster has left the forum. Perhaps we were too 'flaming' for their comfort about our comments on A.I.
You're probably right! (although, small detail, I wouldn't assume the gender of a poster unless they explicitly mentioned it somehow)
I have already tested Devuan with the Cinnamon DE and Venderfoul Wolf with the XFCE DE, and they are both amazing and very stable. So I am planning my backdoor for when Zorin OS will have to decide whether to drop Xorg or GNOME in the future. If Zorin decides to drop Xorg, then I’m distro hopping immediately.
As a matter of fact, I have tested the new Ubuntu LTS release 26.04, and out of 25 extensions, only two work. I have experienced over 20 crashes during actions like setting the display resolution or even launching the file manager. The new default Ubuntu terminal app is also shockingly bad. It is basically unusable.
The whole system is unstable and unusable. I blame it entirely on Wayland because, in my personal experience, it is literally an unholy mess. Even on Zorin with Wayland, apps like Flameshot or RustDesk simply do not work as they should. Not to mention that a vast amount of extensions do not work on Wayland.
So why use something that is significantly worse and miles behind Xorg?
Please no AI in Zorin OS, I like Zorin as it is
I was referring to StarTreker, not the poster, and he is male.
XLibre is the way forward friend. PCLOS Debian has now released all their isos with XLibre. Artix Community xfce edition uses XLibre:
And Devuan has made a commitment to include XLibre in future releases.
Yes I suffered a brain malfunction. The title if thread and OPs post, suggested they want AI in their system. I thought that was strange. I didn't see any flame wars, i feel that this thread appears quite civil, as compared to Reddit threads. The OP not posting for 20 hours, could be their just busy, or gave up the game, who knows. Again, OP title and thread says it all. IMO
EDIT: Wait, I just discovered whats causing problems! If you see the quote in my post, I was quoting something the OP said, they absolutely 100% said it. The OP edited their post 3 times, check the edits!
Pretty sly! Even with my brain missfiring, I discovered this. Screenshot evidence of the quote I replied to, and how the OP changed it later. My brain maybe missfiring a bit lately, but its not completely left the world.
I only had tested it in Live Mode but can't share this Experience. I had a Snap-related Issue which destroys the Installer but Display Settings worked fine for me. I set it up for 1440p, 120hz and 125% Fractional Scaling.
Nautilus worked fine for me, too. The Terminal, too. I had no Issue with it. Yes, the default Design might be not pretty but You can choose the different Preset in the Terminal Settings.
Here would be the Question if all Extensions already support Gnome 50 or not.
Well, here is the Question what really caused the Issues. I wouldn't deny that Wayland is a Factor but without looking deeper into it, it is not more than a Theory. Unfortunately, You can't test it because there is no Xorg session available which is a Dilemma.
I'll be away for three months because I have exams. I'm also feeling pretty burned out. I've completed 95% of the game's development. So, see you later. ![]()
During your time away, also consider the Forum Guidelines and Posting Etiquette.
In another thread, you were warned by a moderator for posting false system specifications.
We do have a sense of humor; but false specs in the HelpDesk sections of the forum are inapproprate.
If you wish to engage with the members of the forum, the best way is by contribution, not by seeking reactions.
For the time being, this thread (it has split into more than one tangent and is not well defined) as well as the "false spec" thread will be closed. When you return, if you still are seeking advice on hardware support, you can get a fresh start by opening a new thread that details your actual specs without distractions.
If you wish to discuss the pros and cons of whether A.I. should be included in a base distribution, you can open a new topic that begins with Arguments Of Merit or using the Poll Feature.
