I installed win 11 on another partition but now i cant access the zorin partition. i partitioned my drive in a bootable ubuntu, used gparted to partition. then installed windows 11 to the new partition. now i cant access the zorin os.
If you install Windows (any version) after you install any GNU/Linux OS you are heading for trouble. It's a bit like a mirror of Windows global domination over other OS's mirrored on your hard drive. To get back on track, Windows has to be the first OS on any drive that you intend to dual-boot from. In respect of running any version of Windows from version 8 upwards, Microsoft implemented Secure Boot and Fast Boot in the BIOS, both of these have to be disabled in order for other OS's to boot, even for the live media versions of GNU/Linux installation media. In Windows itself they created a hidden section in Power Management. Inside of that there is a hard drive setting that puts the drive to sleep and effectively the hard drive is never powered down to enable fast boot times and also prevent other OS's from booting so this too has to be disabled. Similarly, newer OS's use a different partitioning system, GPT as opposed to MBR. We don't have that information from you. Could you please launch Windows Disk Management and provide a screenshot of the partitions using Windows Snipping Tool or whatever it is now called and post back here please.
When You installed Windows after Zorin, it could be that Windows deleted the Boot Partition. You could try to use the USB Stick with Zorin on it, start it and use the Try Zorin Mode. And there You look for the Program ''Boot Repair'' and let it run.
In general I would say it makes less Trouble to install Windows first and then Linux.
My advice in this is always, if you have 2 ssd/hdd drives install linux on one of those and windows on the other. This will void troubles like this.
tried that. no work.
well that may have been good advice before what happened butat the moment. does not help the situation.
Thats the best I got my windows and zorin can't be logged in to now. I have to use a live usb. P2 is zorin. P4 is the win 11
Have you tried reinstalling Grub on Zorin OS?
Yes. I tried again and now im sent to grub recovery and can't access any system.
Well, given that both are fresh installs, anyway... is it an option to Install Windows normaslly, wiping and replacing it; then once done, freshly install Zorin OS, wiping and replacing the previous?
Only windows is fresh. I been on the other zorin for like 4 years and Im trying to save my data from being forked...
I'm willing to delete the windows but as it stands how would that help that I can't boot into either and neither are being recognized to boot.
You can back up data and installations by accessing the partition using your LiveUSB, and also listing and then reinstalling preferred software:
I can get my files out? I can't access that partition thru live usb....
edit: shoot. I tried another way to access the drive and I can access the files. That's a savings at least.
What steps have you tried? Is the partition unmounted?
So I can save my files... Do u really believe there is no booting it again? Should I just get my stuff out and go clean.
Installing Windows after installing a Zorin Distro can be tricky. I am offering you your safest and easiest solution - to reinstall both. Because the alternative is riskier and not easy.
Well shoot I can't get my data out since I'm not owner. Great.
I don't care about apps or such being reinstalled I want my data lol. so unless I get my data it's all a wash and I may as well erase all and start over. I respect what ur saying but I don't see a reason not to try the "risky option" when I'm loosing all my data anyways if it doesn't work. And just to clarify I'm really only beating my myself here. Super bummer. I should have known better.
Are the the installer of Zorin OS - admin of the install you had?
OR are you saying youa re not the owner, due to being on LiveUSB?
Due to live usb. I was admin. It was my machine.
