I am 79 years old, my first computer was a Commodor 64 followed by an Intel 286 running Dos 3.1 so I have been around for a while. I have been a Zorin fan for over a year and presently tun Zorin 18 pro on one desktop and 2 laptops. I don’t really need the stuff in the pro version but I bought it to support the Zorin project. One of my laptops a Dell E6440 which has seen heavy use since 2013, without going into details, has started act a little funky with what I believe is a hardware issue. Time to replace it. Being a Zorin fan I went to the Zorin website and fount “Buy computers powered by Zorin.” “We've partnered with computer brands to provide the best Zorin OS experience out of the box.Every purchase helps contribute to the Zorin OS project.” I scrolled down and found a Clevo NJ75AU. I bought it on Thursday Feb. 12. It now shows estimated delivery Monday Feb 16 from the Netherlands to my home in Stamford Connecticut USA. I hope I made a good choice but it appears to be recommended by Antyom and Kyrill since it is on their website so how can I go wrong. I’m little excited which I guess that is why I made this post.
Congratulations. I saw your photo and it's nice to see I'm not the only new old kid on the block. Nice, wise old man.
Enjoy your new device!
May I ask if Zorin is running on your Dell E6440, which has recently been causing problems? I ask because I have also recently been experiencing problems with Linux Mint on my Dell E6430, which previously always ran perfectly for more than 10 years. Now the fan is suddenly behaving strangely, especially with some kernels, and I'm wondering if it's really a hardware defect or if it's related to an update and can perhaps be solved by switching to a different package/kernel version or switching to an older version of the operating system and if it is a Linux Problem (I haven't tested it in Windows yet).
What is no longer working properly on your Dell?
Hello Thomas: I'm just 5 years behind you. Also started in '88, but mine was an IBM clone - a 386 running dos 5.1. It had 1 mg of memory (more than enough), a floppy drive, a 3.5 drive, and an enormous 20 mg hard drive!
Like you, I've recently been won over by Zorin Linux. Am on version 18 now. It's my daily driver. What a breath of fresh air! Still have a Windows box though, for a couple of "problem" programs, and because I still support people on Windows, (those I haven't yet converted. ![]()
Let us know how you like the Clevo!
Welcome to the forum, Wil! So, how ancient are you, anyway? 72 here...
Have you tried booting a previous linux kernel as a recent upgrade to 6.17 has caused issues for some people.
From grub menu, choose "Additional Options for Zorin" then select a 6.14 version kernel-generic and boot that and test.
Forpli, my issue with my Latitude E6440 is the mouse buttons and touchpad periodically become inoperative so I cannot select anything. I have to do a hard shutdown and restart. I replaced the mouse with no jou and the mouse works fine on my other laptop. Tried using no mouse tracpad only with no joy. Already tried what zabadabadoo suggested and tried a pervious Linux kernel with no joy. Without wasting any more time troubleshooting a 13 year old machine my gut feeling after over 50 years with computers is a bad memory module. I know there are more reasons to be wrong with that than right but that is what my gut says As to your E6430 the first things that come to mind without any more info is Fans or air vents are obstructed which reduces air circulation. Dust accumulation on vents or fans may reduce heat dissipation. There is not enough ventilation. Physical damage to the fans or air vents. Outdated BIOS and device drivers. Good luck with your 14 year old machine. Hopefully you can resolve your issue. My diecision was to bite the bullet and move on.

I've already bought a slightly newer used device, but I'm still very attached to my old one. Unfortunately, I don't know how you can fix the problems with the mouse and touchpad. Are you on Wayland or Xorg? If you're on Wayland you could try to switch to Xorg. Have you tried Zorin lite?
I'm wondering if the suggestion given here may help you:
Since I don't always have problems with the fan, I rule out a clogged fan. In the Bodhi live session, for example, I can watch videos perfectly and the fan runs normally.
Wsmather: You asked me to let you know how I liked my new Clevo NJ75AU. I ordered it on Thursday DHL delivered it on Tuesday. I ordered it clean with no OS. I had Zorin 18 Pro installed, hundreds of files and photos installed, Vivaldi web browser and Surfshark VPN installeed and configured, Evolution and Libre Office set up the way I want all in about an hour. The first thing I noticed was how much faster file transfers are. Everything went smoothly with no hiccups or glitches. This computer and Zorin are a perfect match. Love the lighted keyiboard and the clean look of this machine. Thank you Antyom and Kyrill for putting a Buy Computers powered by Zorin section on the Zorin website, you say Every purchase helps contribute to the Zorin OS project. So hopefully some of my money went to you. If I can deviate for a moment I have heard it said that Zorin is a distro for beginners. It is that but this distro is perfect for users who need to get their work done with no nonsense of distractions . It is a distro that just works. I need at diistro for word processing, spreadsheets, internet for research and no nonsense email. Thank you Antyom and Kyrill for giving me just that.
Have you thought about trying a light weight Linux distro like Linux Lite, Puppy or antiX?
It's nice to know I'm not the only "Old Geezer" on the forum, welcome Grandpa (you have a few years on me)
