I need Nvidia driver 595.71.05 or higher on Zorin OS 18.1 Pro

I'm trying Zorin OS on my Laptop with an RTX 5080 card.

Generally I'm quite happy with it, coming straight from windows 11, the switch worked much better than expected. Most stuff I was used to from Windows 11 actually works here, also. Some way or another. The Steam Proton workaround for games usually needs some configuring to get most games working, and I had to deactivate the RST Raid system for my 2 SSD in my laptop, using them seperately, but most things work.

Zorin OS lets me switch between a handful of Nvidia Drivers, of which only 2 work at all for my GPU. Namely the Nvidia Driver 580_open and the Nvidia Driver 595_open. Other Nvidia drivers don't even detect my 2nd monitor. The non-open versions don't seem to work at all for me. The Nvidia Driver 595_open would generally perform quite well, but it breaks a few games that previously worked, like Elden Ring, which crashes with it. With Nvidia Driver 580_open Elden Ring does work, but all the games just perform much slower with Driver 580 compared to Driver 595. Driver 595 delivers like twice as much fps.

I need a newer version of the Nvidia Driver 595_open installed on my Zorin OS 18.1 Pro. The Nvidia driver 595.71.05 seems to have Elden Ring and some other game crashes from privious Nvidia driver 595 fixed. But trying to install Nvidia drivers per Terminal on Zorin OS didn't work well so far. It seems to not interact well with the whole flatpak steam and Zorin OS system. But maybe I'm wrong about that.

Will new "open version" Nvidia Drivers come to Zorin OS soon?

Hello and welcome,
You can take a look at this, it seem you can do it on ubuntu 24.04 (Zorin base)

The last Nvidia driver are 595.71.05

It works! Awesome!
And even the performance is great with this new driver.

Cool, I'm glad for you :wink:
Don't forget to mark this topic as resolved please

In the gaming category there is no solution button. Unfortunately. I always think it's a shame that the categories Customisation and Gaming don't offer this kind of quick way to show which solution has been found (which would also serve as a small token of appreciation for the helper's work when it is marked).

@Nourpon and @Forpli:

This has the Hardware Support Category (maybe changed?). So, You can mark it as Solution - what I did.

it was in Game category and I changed it to Hardware Support...
And as Regular we can't mark a post as solution
