If I've accidentally deleted a file needed for monitor display, can I repair the system?

From another post, you may know that either (1) boot from the installed Zorin or any live USB doesn't work or (2) I've deleted a file needed for the monitor display.
I suspect it may be the second. I found I had two copies of VLC in my Zorin display and tried to delete one or both and reinstall, but it said VLC couldn't be uninstalled. I assumed this meant it COULDN'T be, rather than it MUST NOT be.
Searching for VLC in Synaptic gave me a list of several files starting "vlc" and I deleted them. Most of the time since then, I've had no display on my monitor. Any ideas?
Just to point out the obvious, I can't change the boot order because there is no display

I suspect you might have a flatpak and APT version installed but I doubt it is software related. What are the specifications of your machine, and in particular what graphics chip/card is in your machine.

All I should have on there is whatever Zorin17.2 Pro installs after erasing the hard drive
It's a customer-specified Mesh using an ASUS motherboard. 16 Mb RAM. Graphics are inbuilt. I don't have any more information, as it's at least 10 years old and I can't access details on the computer. Have searched the house, but can't find any more information

You say you can boot with Blue Star Linux, Boot into that, open a Terminal and enter:

sudo lshw

and post back the results.

What monitor are you using?

That was days ago, before installing Zorin again and again and again...

If I don't have a display, I can't tell if anything is booting and I can't select boot order

It's an Iiyama. I can get the Iiyama screen by turning it off and on, but nothing else. It works fine on my other computer.

Just been reading about Linux file system and found stuff that goes into RAM. Twice I've got Zorin back to where I wanted after a new install, only to find it's disappeared when I turn the computer back on the next day. Does this provide any useful information?

I think because you are a Pro user I would advise you get support from Team Zorin which is what you get when you purchase Pro:

I'll give it a go, maybe in a day or two, as I'm extremely tired from all of this on top of a week of a very bad cold.
I might refer them to my three posts on this so that they can review it in sequential order, as it will be very hard to write it all done without missing out details - I'm getting confused myself now about what I did when and after so many reinstallations from scratch.
Thanks anyway
