Currently running a PC with Solus Plasma, Dual Pentium E2180 with 4GB Ram and a GT 1030 2GB which means Solus only sees about 2.3GB useable RAM so a bit sluggish.
I plan to swap the SSD with Solus into a Core2 Duo E8400 with 8GB ram and the same GT 1030 graphics. Just need to get the PC posting first which means a new PSU and CPU cooler.
Can anyone see any problems with just swapping the SSD over, will the kernel just load the right drivers for the new to me motherboard?
I don't really see a problem with doing this, honestly. As long as the kernel has the right stuff for say your internet adapter on the new board (stuff along those lines) then it should really just be a swap over and continue to work. I've done it a fair few times in the past, but I usually just made sure stuff like the ethernet was compatible before doing the swap.

Ah right something I didn't consider. It's an onboard 1gbs Realtek same as the Dual Core Pentium so hopefully should be ok with kernel 6.14 which Solus uses. Dont know the Ethernet Chipset until I get it to post.
I have a USB Wifi adaptor which I could use in a bind.

With hardware, it is not easy to predict. Most of the time it should work and I have done it, myself, without issues.
But it is possible that a hardware configuration mismatch can cause some problem. So after performing the changeover, stay diligent.

Thanks @Aravisian I will be the most diligent I can be.
Only problem I forsee is the Dual has ICH7 sata chip and the new one is ICH9. Some fiddling might be required.

Just found a spare MB and CPU E8400 so if it doesn't post I can always replace them.

I agree with Applecheeks, should be just a simple swap. After all, your not dealing with state of the art components, compatibility should be decent.
