Hi there! I have messed with Linux and Zorin off and on in the past, but now with the way windows is doing things I'm jumping ship.
I just got a new laptop on black Friday that came with Win11 pre installed. I wiped that, flashed Zorin to a thumb drive, had to get a caddie for the Nvme to show up in the installer. Everything has sofar panned out, but I am now getting this error.
I think the next thing I'll try is putting a fan on the caddie and seeing if that helps, it does have a heat sink on it but I don't think that's doing enough.
Any feed back or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Maybe try it with a USB Stick instead. And did You checked the Checksum of the ISO? Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled? What Tool did You use to create the bootable Drive?
Sure, you can try to install Mint, that's the cheapest thing to try.
Sd card in an adapter ? hmmm... not what I would use, but maybe it's just a prejudice on my part...
Western Digital is a pretty reputable quality, so it should not be the culprit here...
but dubious adapters can be a source of trouble... are yours dubious ? no idea, but as a rule of thumb, if I can avoid these, I do.
Also, you keep saying caddy... I interpreted that as a substitute for enclosures, but I maybe wrong, in which case I have no idea what you mean about "caddies".
If You have the Possibility to use a Windows-Pc, I cwould recommend Rufus for this. Depending if Your BIOS is in UEFI or Legacy Mode, choose in Rufus on the ''Partition Sheme'' Option GPT for UEFI or MBR for Legacy.
If You only have Linux now, Popsicle or Impression would be an Option.
When I try to install Zorin with it in the computer it's doesn't show up in the installer
yeah... that's not a great sign about your hardware linux support...
but, when your nvme was mounted the regular way (ie directly on the motherboard). Did you try to launch a terminal and use lsblk ?
If not, it may be worth trying this and check if this command detects an nvme or not.
Hmmm.... you can try with Mint if you wish, though I suspect a similar result.
You can also try, if you have one, another nvme, just to be sure... or try you WD nvme into another computer if you can.
Alas, I fear your hardware to be not compatible or defective. Is it a laptop ?
Yes it is a laptop.
I'll try Mint and get back to you, I don't currently have anothe Nvme drive to test it with, and I don't have another PC to test the drive in. but if I have to I'll get another drive.
