Installation Issue with VirtualBox

Over the decades I’ve installed a number of different Linux packages but know very little about Linux other that getting the basic package running.

Because Windows 10 support is ending in October
once again I’m interested in Linux and Zorn OS seems to be the best solution for me.

I have Zorn OS 17.3 installed on my HP desktop that has a AMD A8-6418 APU and Zorn seems to be working fine.

I’m trying to get VirtualBox 7.1.8. working but get the following message when I try to run a virtual machine.

I’ve looked at other post on the form with similar messages but I don’t understand the solutions given. Any help that could be given with step-by-step instructions would be great.

Hi and Welcome.

Sorry to hear of your issues with Virtual Box. Have you installed the Extension Pack? In the past I always recommended getting the latest .deb package fro the official site as the ones that get bundled with Zorin aren't the latest, plus the associated Extension pack. That said I no longer use Virtual Box having had a better experience with virt-manager which is what I use for my videos. You will need to install Synaptic Package Manager to do so. If you do go down the route of virt-manager (Virtual Machine Manager) I recommend you create a new pool in /home as by default, virt-manager wants to store VM's in /var which can soon get filled up.

Welcome to the Forum!

Do you have Secure Boot in BIOS enabled? If yes, turn it off (with Fast Boot if available) and then try it again.

Thanks for your info. I added the Extension Pack but I'm not having much success getting VirtualBox to work so I may need to try virt-manager.

Thanks for your response. I thought I'd disabled secure boot but I checked again and it was still enabled. So now, the virtual machine starts but gets an error that AMD-V is disabled. I looked for virtualization in the BIOS but was not sure what it was called. Will look for AMD-V now.

Mike

Thanks for the help. Found the virtualization setting under Security in the BIOS and the virtual machine works now.
