Installed software types

I just loaded 16.2 core onto my Dell Precision laptop, and then used its upgrade option to take it to 17.3 Core. If I press the Zorin Z icon on the taskbar, among the Utilities programs shown is "Document scanner." Can I move that to the Graphics program category (where every scanner program I have run on on a Zorin machine has ever been listed). And I will not do any line commands or stuff like that. With Zorin I shouldn't have to do that ■■■■.

Use the applications "alacarte" to rearrange/edit the links in the menu.

I don't understand our reply or how to make use of what you are saying.

It's an app called alacarte which can move/edit stuff in the menu.

So I should look for that app in SOFTWARE?

It shows as "Main Menu" in the app menu.

AFAIK, it's installed by default on Zorin OS, it may go under another name. But if you you search for alacarte in the menu, it should pop up.

Main Menu shows up in my installed programs, but when I try it, all it will let me do is move the Document Scanner App to a different position in the Utilities catgegory; it will not let me move it to the Graphics category.

In that case, you will need to add the Graphics category to its .desktop file.

You will need to elevate to Root permissions to modify the file, which means needing to use the command line in terminal.

So, now you need to make a choice about your priorities.

Yes, you can install the nautilus-admin package, but as far as I know, it is not shown on Software store and that too, would need to be installed through terminal.

You open Main Menu and go to the Graphics Category. There You click on the right Side on the ''New Entry'' Button. It opens a little Window, where you have to type ine some Stuff to create a new Menu Entry. to get the Document Scanner there, type it like this:

Name Field: Document Scanner
Command Field: simple-scan
Comment Field: Make a digital copy of your photos and documents

It should look like this:

I think I will just install Simple Scan, which has always been put in the Graphics category when added. I'll ignore the scanning app in Utilities.

Right clicking on the menu button (Z) and then edit menu

that function only lets me move Document Scanner up or down within the Utilities app submenu. IT WILL NOT LET ME move it to the Graphics app submenu, which is what I want to do

Look at my Explanation to create the Entry.
