Installing on a second drive, bootmanager is not showing

Linux / Zorin noob here,
Installed Zorin 18 on a new ssd, to use it alongside windows on my PC. Installation went fine but when i restarted and expected to be thrown into the bootmanager to select rather i want to boot into zorin or windows, it just booted right into Zorin. When i press f12 on restart i can select Zorin or windows.
Maby ive installed the bootloader on the wrong device? On install it didnt ask if i wanted to "installl alsongside Windows", only "Erase disk and and install Zorin OS". Could i fix the problem by just reinstalling Zorin but go into Manual partitioning, select the new drive and under "device for boot loader" select Windows boot manager?

If Windows and Zorin are both installed in GPT partition scheme and your drive with Windows has a efi partition you could try it with os-prober. First you need to enable it:

Set ubuntu at first position in boot order.

That would be a Way. @Forpli mentioned a different one with os-prober. Only to be sure with a couple Things:

  • Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled?
  • Is Fast start-Up in Windows disabled?
  • Is Your BIOS in UEFI or Legacy Mode?
  • What Tool did You use to create the Bootstick?

    both yes

    did sudo os-prober with no result so i tryed [ -d /sys/firmware/efi ] && echo UEFI || echo Legacy with the result being UEFI.
    After that lsblk -f gave me NAME FSTYPE FSVER LABEL UUID FSAVAIL FSUSE% MOUNTPOINTS sda ├─sda1 │ ntfs System 65A8A23E76E5A69A ├─sda2 │ ntfs Windows 482C9EEA3F9EB9C5 ├─sda3 │ ntfs 261655C3A0315303 └─sda4 ntfs Recovery 3292758BBB64EB15 sdb ├─sdb1 │ vfat FAT32 B257-A69C 504,8M 1% /boot/efi └─sdb2 ext4 1.0 b1a91f9e-d865-4e8b-8387-0f473c94dc42 373,4G 10% / sdc └─sdc1 ntfs Volume 42E6DC02E6DBF45F sr0.

I think Windows only having an NTFS and no EFI Partition means that windows is indeed in legacy and zorin in UEFI.

What Tool did You use to create the Bootstick

question is, do i reinstall the OS and partition manually or do i convert windows from Legacy → UEFI with mbr2gpt.exe (solution that poped up in my search)?

There would be another Way - but would be annoying I guess. You install windows again - this Time with GPT Sheme; You could use Rufus to do that. And then install Zorin again.

Not the best Way to handle it, but a Way. Or you try this:

but I don't know this Program. So, You should definetely save Your Data for the Case something gets broken. And prepare Bootsticks.

Seems to be an official Microsoft-Tool for the migration from legacy to UEFI from what i found.

There would be another Way - but would be annoying I guess.

I mean worst case ill just leave it as it is. I can still access windows just fine though f12.

Guess ill think about my options and post if ill get it resolved though mbr2gpt.exe or close the threat ^^

Well, when they offer that, it should be worth a Try I think. But be prepared for worst Case.
