Installing zorin core to mac mini 1.83 ghz

Im hoping to replace the mac mini hd with an ssd with zorin core already installed. Has anyone any idea if it will work?

Did a quick Brave A.I. search which states it will not work (Zorin 18 is based on Ubuntu 24.04):

" Ubuntu 24.04 will not run natively on a Mac Mini with a 1.83 GHz processor because this specification corresponds to the Mac Mini G4 (2005) , which uses a PowerPC architecture that Ubuntu Linux does not support.

  • Architecture Mismatch : Ubuntu 24.04 is designed for x86_64 (Intel) and ARM64 (Apple Silicon) processors. The 1.83 GHz Mac Mini uses the PowerPC G4 processor, which is incompatible with standard Ubuntu installations.
  • Hardware Age : The Mac Mini G4 reached its end-of-life support years ago, and modern Linux kernels no longer include drivers for its hardware.
  • Alternative Options : While native installation is impossible, you might explore virtualization software on a different machine to emulate PowerPC, or consider upgrading to an Intel-based Mac Mini (2010 or later) which can run Ubuntu 24.04 natively.

I'm not sure about this answer because this version of Mac Mini had intel Core Duo proc...

Welcome to the Forum!

You could first create a Bootstick with Zorin and then start it and run it in Live Mode to see if and how good it runs.

I'm not familar with macs, but I would prefer a fresh install instead of installing a ssd with Zorin preinstalled which was installed on another computer. Your computer may need other drivers.

Its a mac mini. Intel Core Duo, 2 gb memory 667 mhz ddr2 processor speed 1.83 gz serial no YM72207SW0B MACMINI1,1

Zorin core will run really bad with those specs. You could try Zorin Lite but better would be a more lightweight distribution as Antix, Bodhi Linux, Puppy Linux, Q4OS...
Does your mac mini support 64 bit? The current Zorin versions don't support 32 bit architecture.

It would be better if you find 4GB DDR2 and, like @Forpli said, use zorin lite instead or even ligther distro

I would add to @Forpli's Suggestions miniOS. It is made to run on USB Sticks. So, it doesn't need much Ressources. It might to be very pretty but is functional.

What could be problematic is the Kernel. Because You have relatovely old Hardware, the Question would be if the Kernel - independently from the OS - would be too new.

I've installed Mint Mate on and Intel MAC Mini and it worked fine.
