Invalid credentials in Evolution with Google

Hello,
New to Linux and have installed Zorin OS 17.3 Pro. Looking good so far.
I am running Evolution Email with Microsoft and Google accounts. They have been configured in the Online Accounts section in settings.

Evolution automatically picks up these accounts. The Microsoft account is working. The Google account cannot be accessed - reports a: The reported error was “Invalid credentials (Failure)”.

The account can be accessed with the supplied credentials in other apps. I have tried removing/re-connecting the Google online service. Same result.

Wondering if this can be resolved? Thanks.

Is your gmail account set up for extern app connection? You do that in your gmail account.

Not sure. I'll check. Thanks.

Seems to be affected by a change in Google's security policy. If I create an account directly in Evolution, I can access my Gmail folders. If I connect to Google services in Online Accounts, this account does not work in Evolution and the security cannot be changed.

Conversely, if I add my Microsoft account into Evolution, it does not work. However, when connected via Online Accounts in settings, this account populates into Evolution and works fine.

It doesn't help that I seem to have two Google accounts for some reason that do different things. Will need to sort this out on the Google/Gmail end.

So, it appears that the Google services connection in Online Settings needs to be updated to cater to the new security changes, although it does work with Google Drive and other services. So it also a problem with my Google account as well.

I can workaround the issue for the moment.

When I first started dabbling with KMail in Plasma it was necessary to get a security token from Gmail to allow KMail access. I think you will find this is Google not wanting you to use third party apps and it's preference for you to use itcs own apps and Web based mail client. I have noticed when running other distros with Plasma (KDE) and install Tiled Menu by zren, clicking on default apps brings up/adds Gmail weblink to the Menu alongside LibreOffice Writer and LibreOffice Calc.
