Back when I was on MS Windows, the sound of my laptop used to be good with decent base tones. Now in Zorin, the sound quality is flat with no base. Is there some software that I can install to enjoy a better audio output? preferably one that includes an equalizer.
never heard of JamesDSP , so searched it . Looks interesting, might give it a go myself.
Anyway , here's more info on it
plus this
hmmm ...installed pipewire ect. , as per 2nd link
then installed JamesDSP through software
must say my lappy's sound is much better
thanks Dexxa !
I've seen EasyEffects being recommended before, and tried it myself for a while. I would say it's decent enough to at least give it a try.
I just installed Pipewire with the referenced instructions, thank you. All working.
JackDSP - just blanked the output. Nothing doing. Uninstalled.
EasyEffects - I'm liking it, it has some good modules available. Thumbs up from me.
Wow - really improved my laptop sound. More clarity, less mud.
Only one for me is all ALSA packages (except Jack and OSS), All QAS packages, and only one audio player, Audacious which allows you to directly use ALSA, my preference over Pulse and Pipewire - I don't need either!
Ah, I'm working towards hooking up Reaper to my pro multitrack audio box. Different use case.
But, just in terms of laptop listening, installing the above Pipewire plus EasyEffects is well worth the effort.
Good afternoon, everyone
I tried to switch to Pipewire following the website tutorial, but my sound icon disappeared and it doesn't come back even after restarting. Now every time I boot up, I have to run the command "pulseaudio --start" to get sound. I used the Timeshift app before making any changes, but even after recovering the system, I still don't get sound. I followed the steps in the tutorial correctly, but I want to go back without having to run the command to get audio. Can someone help me?
Its possible you need to enable pins with with hdajackretask. My Acer predator unit sounds better in windows compared to linux. Pretty flat but that whas because linux did not enable 2 front speakers. Only the subwoofer .
I had similar issues with my SB AudigyRX. I solved it by adding all ALSA packages, and all QAS packages, as stated in previous post, and what has saved the day for me on Q4OS and PCLinuxOS is Audacious:
and because of this, even in-game music playing Wesnoth comes out of all speakers of my Logitech surround sound system.
Bearing in mind I am pretty much a Linux beginner, it may be worth running some commands to see what is running on your system, from the guide posted above by @14nd for installing Pipewire:
Type pactl info
into a terminal and see what it gives you under “Server Name.” If it gives you “on PipeWire” in parentheses, you’re already running PipeWire.
If the terminal only shows you “PulseAudio” without anything following it, your system isn’t running PipeWire.
It may be that you don't currently have any sound system running?
That article also includes a link to troubleshooting audio problems - apologies if you have already followed this:
