Hello to all Zorin Forum members
I am a newbie who installed Zorin 17.3 today. I was doing well until I tried to install a Windows app (because there is no suitable Linux alternative). Please see the attached picture. It appears that the issue is with installing Windows App Support. Does anybody know what could be causing the problem?
Windows apps (store) will not work on linux.
He's not talking about the Windows App store; he's talking about Windows App Support, which is included in Zorin from (I think) 17.1 on. His screenshot shows it failing to install from gnome-software.
Those are server error messages you're seeing, so something is going wrong downloading it, rather than as a matter of compatibility. Looks like dependencies it's trying to pull from Ubuntu's server aren't ready, which... is strange to me.
There are other ways to run Windows applications, though they require a bit more work; App Support tries to smooth that out some for you. My preferred method is Bottles (also available in the software store), and strange as it may seem, adding something as a non-Steam game in Linux Steam may well let you launch even a non-game application via Steam's launcher.
All of that said, I'm going to tag @AZorin since Windows App Support is a big advertised feature that I imagine they want installing smoothly and the problem is on the backend. It's Ubuntu's servers though, so I'm not sure what Zorin can do, unless they host the dependencies on their own repositories...

Also just to confirm, I assume you downloaded the 17.2 image and then did updates to get to version 17.3? Just making sure as it would be nice to also check this as well. As far as I'm aware, .3 isn't available as a download yet.
Welcome to the Forum!
The Error Message looks for me so that something with the Source isn't okay. So, open Software & Updates
and on the first Tab You find this red marked Option:
Set this to ''Main Server'', then open the Terminal and type sudo apt update
and then look if You can install the Windows App Support.
Thanks to everyone who replied. I can now provide an update.
Firstly, it was a new install of Zorin 17.3 as a dual boot on a computer that was previously Windows 10 only. There were no previous versions of Zorin on that machine.
I made sure that all Zorin updates were completed and updates were coming from the correct region (UK) before I proceeded with my attempt to install a Windows app.
I first tried to install the Windows app (by double-clicking on the download) when Zorin advised me to use the 'Windows App Support' which I confirmed. It was during this installation where the problem occurred. As a newbie, the error messages meant nothing to me and I did not know what to do to fix the problem.
After waiting a few hours, I tried to install Windows App Support by itself and it worked. So, I think that the issue may have been to do with installing Windows App Support secondary to installing a Windows app rather than installing it by itself prior to installing a Windows app. Or there could have been an issue to do with Zorin 17.3 and the Windows App Support that has since been resolved. Either way. I am glad I managed to get past the problem.
