Is zorin 17 based on the most recent version of ubuntu?

just wondering if so?

Yes, Zorin OS 17 is based on the latest LTS release Ubuntu 22.04.

However, it contains newer elements under than hood than stock Ubuntu 22.04 does.

This might be a bit confusing. Zorin17 is based on ubuntu 22.04 whereas the latest ubuntu is 23.xx. Zorin Is based on the latest version of Ubuntu 22 and not latest Ubuntu

Like what?
I see Gnome Extensions and a theme but not much else.

This video (Originally posted on the forum by @Altand ) does a good job of covering it:

There is more: The inclusion of different Gnome than stock Ubuntu 22.04 which is a lot of work in itself - because Gnome is so integrated as well as reliance on Extensions to properly mesh with the shell.
Hopefully it helps underscore what Zorin OS is as a distro.

It helped me a lot to look at a lot of these factors and it very quickly cleared my head of any doubts about what Zorin OS 17 not only took to develop, but what it will offer users far beyond the base.
