Issue with Store and Windows App Support

I have installed version 18.1 on my MacBook Pro (Late 2013, i7 processor). When I search for the Windows App Support application and try to install it from the Store, I receive an “Error, unexpected” message. The same error occurs when I try to install other applications from the Store; either I see the same error or the application hangs.

I have also tried installing Windows App Support using the Terminal, but it returns an error.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Can you please enter

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

in the terminal and post the output here to see if there are shown errors with the download servers. The last days the ubuntu servers were often down.

Here the output:

Reading package lists... Done
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock. It is held by process 1368 (packagekitd)
N: Be aware that removing the lock file is not a solution and may break your system.
E: Unable to lock directory /var/lib/apt/lists/

Please close the software store and updater app or synaptic package manager if they are running. Then try the command again.

I closed all apps and even restarted the system and got this:

E: Could not get lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock. It is held by process 1298 (packagekitd)
N: Be aware that removing the lock file is not a solution and may break your system.
E: Unable to lock directory /var/lib/apt/lists/

Probably it is a process which is running in background to make automatic updates or so. Please wait and try it later. The downloads may be very slow today because of high demand. When the terminal shows no errors then you can try to install the apps with the software store.
