Issue with the latest kernel updates

Hi there, I'd like to report an issue with the latest kernel updates (6.17.0-22 and 6.17.0-23).

My system recently updated to Zorin OS 18.1 and everything is running smoothly, but these specific kernel versions caused a major regression on my Alienware 13 R3. When running kernels .22 or .23, my Wi-Fi stops working and I get no image signal on my external monitor. It seems like a handshake issue between the new kernel and the Nvidia drivers.

I've had to roll back and lock my system to version 6.17.0-20, which works perfectly. I wanted to share this so the team can look into it for future updates.

Hi and welcome.

The team do not have any input regarding what goes into the kernels.
True they will make a choice of which version appears to be the most stable, but just like Windows, things don't always work out.

Why the mention of the other OS? I had the privilege to be acquainted with an NT4 and registry Guru when I was a self-employed IT Contractor. He told me about MS hardware verification. Two different pieces of hardware both met the specification ... but put the two pieces in the same machine would break verification.

Again let us remember that most hardware is designed for that other OS.

There is of couurse nothing to prevent you from installing a different kernel altogether. @wesoliv429 is running Zorin 18.1 on Liquorix kernel 6.19.14 without issue (and is void of the Copy Fail malware bug). Something to consider.

There is a guide i made if you want to try just follow the first part and install the 6.18 generic kernel and see if it helps stablize your system
