Issues with Kurdish On-Screen Keyboard Layout Support

Hello Zorin team!

I’m encountering a problem where the on-screen keyboard doesn’t properly switch to Kurdish layouts. Specifically:

  • Kurdish (Iraq, Arabic-Latin) and Kurdish (Turkey, Latin Alt-Q) both default to English characters instead of typing Kurdish letters.
  • The Arabic and Persian keyboards do not seem to have this issue.
  • Additionally, when using the Kurdish (Iraq, Arabic-Latin) layout, the standard Ctrl + C copy shortcut does not work; I have to switch back to an English layout in order to copy text.

I tried looking for a GitHub repository to file this bug but couldn’t find one specifically for Zorin OS’s on-screen keyboard component. Could you please advise on how to fix these Kurdish keyboard layout issues, or direct me to the right place for reporting them?

Thank you!

The default On Screen Keyboard is Caribou, developed by Gnome:

Check which version you have installed with

apt list --installed | grep caribou

I think I might have found a clue to the issue:

If you read through it keyboard layouts are designed for X (X11/Xorg). Zorin defaults to Wayland screen compositor. Next time you login, select your username but before entering password, go to the cog lower right on screen and click on it and change to Zorin on Xorg, then login. Keep us posted.
