Hello there,
it's my first post on the Zorin OS forum. In fact, I've been interested in this distro for a while – version 15 was the one that caught my attention to Linux. I've decided to go with Mint as my first distro instead... but hey, it's not what I meant this post to be.
I've had my woes with 17 series when I installed it on my spare machine. I must say I'm quite experienced with Linux, my current playground is Arch-based, so for the most part I know my way around.
My family is reluctant when it comes to Linux, but as my Mum has recently got a Windows 11 laptop and she really couldn't accomplish basic tasks due to how Microsoft designed things, I decided to try Zorin 18 on her laptop. It was very easy to set up, with everything working out-of-the-box.
Given her laptop back and provided with basic instructions, Mum can finally handle the computer usage. Files management is no longer a struggle, there are no unreasonable design choices (I'm looking at you, Windows Start menu!), Nautilus looks dead-simple, web browsing works as expected and there is no telemetry included.
Kudos to everyone involved, maybe 2025 is not a Year Of Linux Desktop™, but at least there's another one convertee.
