KdenLive title bar buttons not working

Hello there,

As a long known Windows users, even started with MS-DOS, I decided to install Zorin OS on my 'hobby' laptop. It's an Acer Aspire 5 and after some issues I got the system going quite well. I've been able to re-use Linux versions of software I was used to or found suitable alternatives. One program needed to run on Wine and even that works well.

So I decided to install Zorin OS alongside my W10 system on my main, also a bit older, desktop. It has an I5 4570, Z87-K motherboard and 16GB ram. In order to keep things seperate I have 2 SSD's for both operating systems and 2 HDD's for stuff to store. Grub takes care of the booting process and both OS's boot nicely.

On both the laptop and the desktop I've installed Kdenlive, flatpak. On the laptop it's running fine and I was quite impressed by the options and performance of the 10 year old laptop. However I encountered some issues with the installation on the desktop. This made me dive further into the world of dependencies, gnome, Adwaita etcetera alongside the still limited knowledge of the main terminal commands. Steep learning curve, but interesting.

The issue I have on the desktop with kdenlive is that it opens windowed and stays put there. The minimize, maximize en close buttons are there but they don't work. I found that the right click on the titlebar also does not work. I noticed that the buttons look different from other windows, like Nautilus, which is a decoration thing and I don't mind as long as they work.

I decided to uninstall kdenlive again and run the appimage version. This works fine! All buttons operational and I can maximize the main program window (which is very nice when editing video....) The Zorin OS and kdenlive versions between the laptop and desktop are the same.

I know it's not a super big issue as I could install kdenlive on Windows as well (which I might do) but in order to learn more about ubuntu I'm in for suggestions where to look at.

Any ideas?

Regards,
Alex

Flatpak packages are generally designed to be immutable. They are sandboxed and lack access to the system.
You might try using a program called Flatseal to adjust the Kdenlive flatpaks permissions and see if that helps... But modifying and repacking is a bit beyond even the advanced GnuLinux user.

Have you tested the apt supplied package?

sudo apt install kdenlive

You can also submit a bug report to the flatpak developer on Flathub.

Hi Aravisian,

No, I had not, but now I have and that works fine. Even the buttons in the title bar are gnome-style now.

So concluding, if Appimage and apt work, and flatpak doesn't, I should report it on Flathub?

Hmm, never done that, and as a month old newbee on Linux I doubt if I would be in the right position to do that. I suppose the issue would rather be inside my Zorin installation than in a widely used package.

However, many thanks Aravision, kudo's for you!

In general, yes. The software developer is usually in the best position to examine a bug report and the developer making a fix and being aware of an issue benefits everyone.
The trickier part is knowing who to submit a bug report to. This might seem easy at first but... Many distros build apps in-house as well as including applications from other developers.
And it is not unusual that developers will try to pass the buck onto a distro rather than their app - sometimes this is legitimate and sometimes it is not...

It will make a sailor out of a person. Either by learning how to navigate by the stars or learning colorful language.

Oh, by the way - did this solve the issue?

Yes, hence the kudo's. All three buttons react normally after installing it using apt.

Solved!
