Hello there,
As a long known Windows users, even started with MS-DOS, I decided to install Zorin OS on my 'hobby' laptop. It's an Acer Aspire 5 and after some issues I got the system going quite well. I've been able to re-use Linux versions of software I was used to or found suitable alternatives. One program needed to run on Wine and even that works well.
So I decided to install Zorin OS alongside my W10 system on my main, also a bit older, desktop. It has an I5 4570, Z87-K motherboard and 16GB ram. In order to keep things seperate I have 2 SSD's for both operating systems and 2 HDD's for stuff to store. Grub takes care of the booting process and both OS's boot nicely.
On both the laptop and the desktop I've installed Kdenlive, flatpak. On the laptop it's running fine and I was quite impressed by the options and performance of the 10 year old laptop. However I encountered some issues with the installation on the desktop. This made me dive further into the world of dependencies, gnome, Adwaita etcetera alongside the still limited knowledge of the main terminal commands. Steep learning curve, but interesting.
The issue I have on the desktop with kdenlive is that it opens windowed and stays put there. The minimize, maximize en close buttons are there but they don't work. I found that the right click on the titlebar also does not work. I noticed that the buttons look different from other windows, like Nautilus, which is a decoration thing and I don't mind as long as they work.
I decided to uninstall kdenlive again and run the appimage version. This works fine! All buttons operational and I can maximize the main program window (which is very nice when editing video....) The Zorin OS and kdenlive versions between the laptop and desktop are the same.
I know it's not a super big issue as I could install kdenlive on Windows as well (which I might do) but in order to learn more about ubuntu I'm in for suggestions where to look at.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Alex
