Keeping youngsters safe online

New Technology brings additional responsibility to parents. I for one did not wish my eldest to go onto Social Media but they gave in to peer pressure. It is like the story of a friend of mine who refused to buy GTA for their son, so the son went to their friend's house to play it.

So what do we have at our disposal? Zorin OS 18 has the child safety app which is now a menu item whereas in 17 you had to use the terminal.

What other options are available?
OpenDNS is available for parents to exclude sites being accessed by their children which can be a global setting of site types and also specific sites.

Lastly, choosing the correct mobile device. I was pleased to see that Murena has made great inroads in this regard so any parent wanting to purchase a mobile phone should either go for non-smart brick phone or choose a Murena Fairphone device which will be a lot cheaper and more secure with Child safety in mind, but ensure it comes with /e/OS 3.x:

Additionally, I would like to add some information.

For anti-bad and anti-p o r n DNS servers:
from the Czech Republic: www.joindns4.eu/for-public (EU only)
from the USA: one.one.one.one/family (global)
from Germany: dnsforge.de (only in this country)
from Russia: dns.yandex.com (in the former USSR)
from Canada: www.cira.ca/en/canadian-shield (O Canada)

And for a few stupid cell phones:
www.hmd.com/fr_ch/feature-phones
www.energizermobile.com/fr/accueil
www.doro.com/fr-ch/telephones-et-accessoires/telephones-mobiles
www.emporiamobile.com/fr-fr/collections/telephones-a-touches

To find out which DNS are currently being used:
www.top10vpn.com/tools/what-is-my-dns-server

And a command to check the processing speed:
dig @9.9.9.9 zorin.com | grep time
Run it again one or twice, because of the cache.

For parental control on Android I recommend:
Time Limit

That only limits time, murena also does this and prevents access to Social Media which is even better.
