I am wondering why the kernel on Zorin hasn't moved to at least 6.18 and wondering if it is because of the 'noble' base. On PCLOS Debian I am currently on Liquorix 6.19 and boot times seem even faster.
the 6.17 kernel is a backport for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
but problems have been reported for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS version
with the 6.17.0.19 kernel, will await another backport when its available.
It is because of Ubuntu. Zorin uses the Ubuntu Kernels.
Liquorix is another Project. And their Keneln are a bit optimized to be ''snappier'' but that comes with an increased Power Consumption (I guess the Amount varies depending on CPU).
What Zorin could do is offering the Liquorix Kernel as Default and let the Ubuntu Kernel stay as 2nd Choice if there are Issues - or for older Hardware that doesn't like the newer Kernel.
yes Zorin is based on Ubuntu LTS so any updated kernel will be backported via Ubuntu
the newer kernels will be available when 26.04 LTS is released and the kernels backported from that.
i did learn something after using ubuntu for nearly 20 years
not a lot just somethings.
ive been on 6.18-17 liquorix for quite some time now. it works fine im even able to use wayland now due to amd RX 6600 XT had a small problem with some video tearing but seems it was just hidamari when i came out of one of the games i play
but i agree..we should move to at least 6.18-10 or so.
As far as I know, this is not final. I heard and read here different Things. I've read at on Point that with the next Point Release of 24.04 in ... October the Kernel and Driver Stack will be lifted to the one from Ubuntu 26.04. On another Article stands that it will not be on the same Level.
So, at least for me it is at the Moment not sure what will come.
