Keyboard layout change bugs

Hello all,

I've noticed two instances when changing keyboard layout does not work as intended. In settings, I've set that the keyboard layout is set globally for all apps.

  1. When I am trying to rename a file in Files, I cannot change the keyboard layout at all by keyboard shortcut (I have it same as Windows, alt + shift). When the dialog window for changing the file name is displayed, pressing alt + shift does nothing. However, it works when renaming a file on desktop.
  2. Sometimes when I switch to my secondary layout and lock the PC, when trying to change the kb layout on the login screen I feel it has a life on its own. I change the layout (again, alt+shift) to primary, click on the password prompt, but in that very moment it goes back to secondary layout. So I need to do it again. Sometimes I think when I am already with the cursor in the password prompt and I start typing, it goes again back to the secondary layout. It's weird.

Thank you

Does Your System run in Wayland or X11? you can check that with the Terminal Command echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

Right now I am on X11

You could check if it behaves the same when on Wayland.

Got to the Login Screen and click there on Your Profile so that the Password Field appears. When it is appeared, You should see in the bottom right Corner a Gear Icon. Click on it and You should see 2 Options. Depending if You have installed the System with Nvidia driver, the Options might named a bit different. Switch from the current one to the other one and then log in.

Then use the above Command again to be sure that the System runs now in Wayland and then try Your Shortcuts again.

The problem in point 1 disappears on Wayland. I need to test a bit more the point 2, but so far I did not experience it either. And yes, I am on nVidia.
