I suppose it is common knowledge that Ksnip does not work under Wayland (Zorin 18.1). A web-search mentions Switching to the Xorg display server. I am a complete novice on Linux and this seems too dangerous. I'd appreciate it if anyone who knows better advise on whether to do this, especially any dangers or trade-offs.
There's no danger in switching to xorg display protocol. Simple log out and click your username. A cog should appear - here you can switch between the protocols.
Thank you.
Is switching to xorg, something that needs to be on every reboot?
Or is it a one time change that will stay.
In the meantime I have found PixelTaken that has almost all of the same features as Ksnip. The most important feature missing is the multitab and persistent keeping of the previous captures. Perhaps Wayland will fix this soon!
You only need to do it once.
Ksnip need to rewrite their app if it's going to work in Wayland.
Xorg is the mature and stable Display Protocol.
Wayland is a newer and to be honest, not yet ready for prime time display protocol.
So there are no dangers in switching to Xorg.
I would like to see XLibre adopted as PCLOS Debian has.
