I was annoyed by lags during animations on Zorin 17. I'm a laptop user, and I use a lot the touchpad. 3-fingers-up movement was always laggy when showing all windows.
Problem solved with indirect help from another thread about wine font smoothing : Font smoothing in Wine

The solution is to install gnome-tweaks, then open it and go to the Font section. Change the antialiasing from "Standard (greyscale)" to "Subpixel (for LCD screens)".
Why ? I didn't search, but I'm happy now : no lags.
