Hi,i use zorin os latest version,The system is installed on USB,how can i launch any windows games on it It didn't work through Steam. I tried to run gta san andreas and watch dogs 1
Here is a help site with a guide:
The steam installer installs steam as native package. I would recommend you this method. If you have installed another package and want to try this one please remove the installed one first.
In steam "Enable Steam Play for all other titles" to be able to play Windows games.
When you have installed steam as flatpak you should also install flatseal and with flatseal set the permissions for steam to grant access to your users/system files.
Also you'll run into complication if you try to run games from a Windows partition. The games need to be install on a Linux partition like EXT4.
Got alot of games running in Linux, but AAA games with anti-cheat stuff won't work on Linux.
That's not needed anymore. It's default now.
Is this a very recent change? I noticed this only in the past month - and it thoroughly confused me when I had that unchecked, yet it was still offering to install and run titles.
I think around ~2 months ago.
We would also need to know more information before we could try giving you some more helpful tips. For example, you say it's installed on USB. Do you mean you have a LiveUSB with Zorin on it that you're testing, or you've installed Zorin onto a USB stick fully? And for trying to play the games, a little more information on that would help too. Like are you trying to install via DVDs, or are they steam games, etc.
Running Windows games on Zorin OS can be tricky, especially from a USB install. You could try using Lutris or Heroic Games Launcher with Wine or Proton GE for better compatibility. Also, make sure you have the latest GPU drivers installed. Some bigger games like GTA or Watch Dogs might still struggle on a USB setup, since performance and read speeds can be limited.
I play a few games on the beta and OS 17 Bottles has gotten way better at installing alot of the dependencies needed for most games i play star trek fleet command and honkai star rail star rail is using a unique launcher tho but in OS 18 i can close star trek game using the in game exit program vs using terminal and pkill to shut it down steam is a good foundation and with the proton use can play alot of games on zorin i have steam as well and am able to play all of the X series games i havnt tryed X4 yet tho
I use Steam, because I've always used Steam, since it was introduced in 2003. Steam integrates with Linux fairly well, and since I've had an account with the for like, forever, I simply login, download my games, or buy new ones.
Proton also integrates well with Steam, which makes most games run on Linux, I don't really see the need, for the over complexity, and difficult to use, Wine & its bottles. Its so much more work, with very little reward.
Trust me on this, when newcomers from Windows 10, switch to Linux, they arn't gonna appreciate Wines terrible UI, and the complexity of making it work. When I first switched to Linux many years ago, I hated Wine, & I still do. I've always used Steam, and will continue to do so.
But of course, you can do whatever is best for you.
Bottles has changed ..alot its very easy to setup a game vs using the old wine way of doing it but i do agree steam does have more games in it i only play the 2 above so my needs are easy i dont play many first person shooters as my curved screen makes me sick for some reason like to keep how i see screen from zoomed out position. but yes steam will be easier for those coming to zorin or linux in general
Exactly the reason, if not more reasons, why I didn't get a curved screen, simply because its the new monitor fad of the decade. For the last 2-decades, I've been using a flatscreen panel, and I have been perfectly fine with it, I don't need the latest gimmick, that manuafactures pull out of their behinds, and slap a 1000 dollar price tag on it.
I have a Dell 32" 4K IPS 144Hz gaming monitor, which sits about 1-foot or so in front of my face, on a stand, in front of my couch seating position. Its an awesome monitor, all I need for gaming & beyond.
I don't even have a 4k screen even though I have the money to buy one, but I see no reason to buy one yet. Though I have a gamer monitor with 144hz refresh rate.
I bet its some sweet 1440P though, and while I can't push every game to 144FPS, some games I can though. To be honest, I think once you hit 80FPS, I really don't think my eyes can sense anything beyond that. I really love the deep rich colors of IPS, I don't need no OLED. I'm satisfied for sure.
