And when You now choose directly in the Window from the Core to the Pro ISO?
If I select "Zorin-OS-17.3-Core-64-bit-r2.iso" for boot selection I have the option to use FAT32 file system. If I change it to "Zorin-OS-17.3-Pro-64-bit.iso" or "Zorin-OS-17.3-Pro-Lite-64-bit.iso" FAT32 is not an option.
Update:
As a test I went a head and tried booting with the Zorin Core ISO but ran into the same issue as described in OP.
I also tested EndeavourOS and it worked very well from what I could tell with the little bit of poking around I did. It found all my monitors, was able to get out to the internet, and saw all my external HDD/SSDs.
I don't know a lot about EndeavourOS I just heard about it last night. Now the question is do I use that distro or go the Arch way and build my own ?
Have you tried balenaEtcher? Maybe it won't make a difference cuz the either the image has a problem, or rufus does (though it's unlikely, it is may be possible for the version you're using)
one thing - did you try the pro version with dd?
EndeavourOS would be easier than Arch if you are not yet familar with Linux.
Yes. I’ve tried balenaEtcher. It creates a USB that isn’t readable in Windows and my BIOS doesn’t see it as being bootable.
P.S. I’ve used older version of Rufus to see if that would make a difference and it doesn’t. Same thing happens.
Yes. I think I did.
I’m have some familiarity with Linux. I have a few Linux servers that I’m running docker on at home. I have used a few different distros Debian/Ubintu/RedHat (no DE). I don’t not use these on a daily bases.
This is my first attempt to run Linux as my daily driver. I still have a lot to learn about it.
hmm. not knowing pro iso size (6gb maybe), didn't understand why only showing ntsf, but fat32 only up to 4gb, then assume rufus kicks in with ntfs if larger, hence should be dd option, not iso
The size of Pro is over 7 GB.
I will have to check because I think versions 15/16 paid versions are fine when using Rufus to make the USB.
Also the FAT32 4 GB limit should only come into effect if there is a file inside the ISO that is over 4 GB. Most Windows versions FAT32 supports up to 32 GB partitions.
the single file system.squashfs may be larger than 4gb in zorin pro
I wonder if you formatted (not quick format) the USB stick using exFAT, maybe that format may then show up in Rufus. I have not done this myself - just a suggestion.
I always use Unetbootin to create installation USB's myself.
My side comment on Arch and Endeavour is that they both contain systemd. Artix Linux would be my preference with multiple DE's with multiple init systems that don't include systemd. The only downside is printer support. Would be interested to know if Devuan 5.0 would work (default DE is xfce but you can choose or add at point of install. Haven't looked at Devuan in a while so don't know what kernel in use. I couldn't get to grips with Endeavour and what didn't help was it wiped out my PCLOS Debian drive after I had selected my KDE neonuser drive for deletion!
Just checked and Devuan 5.0 is only at 6.1. Artix offers three different kernels and has just released .isos and the package for existing installs, XLibre as an alternative to xorg and Wayland. Need to re-visit this distro just to checkout XLibre!

Well, at least, You now have a Distro what works. I would call that Progress, hahaha!
That is up to You. Endeavour OS is Arch. So, You already use it. If You want the pure Arch ... Try it.
I would imagine this would work as the Ventory boot USB is formatted using the exFAT file system and it boots Zorin without the read only error, just very slow and never fully boots up.
That is true. I played around with it most of the day yesterday and it seems to work well. I need to get some other hardware working on it but so far so good.
I would like to take this time to thank everyone that took the time to comment on the is post. I learned a lot from all of you and it was fun. I still have a long way to go but at least we found something that works on this hardware.
I'm working with the Zorin Support Team to see if they can get it to work on my computer. I would guess that they won't be able too but I though it would be worth a shot. I will update this post with any relevant information that I get from them.
i've just done a screencast of Artix Linux testing iso of the Community Edition GTK with Xlibre. It comes with fastfetch and when running it comes with kernel 6.15.1.
Will post to link once file has finished rendering and I have uploaded to my Vimeo account.
Awesome! I would love to see that.
