Location of Brave browser profile

I have both the Brave and Vivaldi browsers on my 17.2 laptop. I found the profile folder for Vivaldi: /home/john/.var/app/com.vivaldi.Vivaldi/cache/vivaldi/

Assuming that Brave is similar (both are Chrome based), I expected Brave to located in a similar location but I could not find it.

I looked on the web and found this location listed for Brave (from community.brave.com/):
~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser

I don't have that file path in my .config folder.

The location will depend on the type of package format. You will find Flatpak packages under /home/john/.var. If you installed Brave in the same way, you'll find it here.

Note, it's possible that you need to launch it first at least once for it to create this profile folder.

~/.var/app/ was the first place I looked. My profiles for Vivaldi (and even Floorp which I am trying out) are there, but not Brave.

I installed Brave as a Snap. Not sure why I did that. I usually install Flatpaks. Maybe it was the first one that popped up when I searched the Software Store.

If I'm not mistaken, Snap packages are available under /snap or /var/lib/snapd/snaps. I'm not terribly familiar with this package format as I've never used it myself.

Thanks, that did it. It was in
~/snap/brave/common/.cache/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/Default/

If I save that file and uninstall Brave and re-install as a Flatpak, could I copy it to
~/.var like the other browsers and get my settings back as they were in the Snap version?

Most likely, yes. The program files themselves are all the same, the package format deals only with how they are organized in the filesystem.

If I'm not mistaken I believe I installed my Brave installation as a .deb ..... photo from Brave Installation web page .....

That's what I always use do, as well. It helps stay clear of Flatpaks, Snaps, etc., and it works like a charm.
