I looked at all the pages on Amazon.fr and the only ones that meet your spec in terms of size are ... you guessed it ... EMMC ![]()
EMMC + very shady origin/manufacturing, you can find their dopplegängers on alisomething. Btw, if I can't find something more reliable, I might end up with one of those, but not at that price.
Chuwi... I had a 10" tablet with a magnetic keyboard, which was actually pretty nice. It ran Windows 10 and it was quite good at first, but unfortunately it started to give all sorts of trouble after a while (ghost touch, erratic trackpad, etc.).
I almost felt bad when I donated it to a local NGO ![]()
On that size, the closest that I could recommend is a Chromebook. I actually got myself an 11" after that Chuwi. I didn't expect much quality in terms of materials because they are made to be cheap, but also tough enough for students who don't really treat this type of stuff very nicely...
And, surprisingly, they are pretty good. At least the one that I got, which still runs to this day. Not bad for a 10+ year-old, low-end device:
The battery in particular is excellent, still runs for 8+ hours easily (depending on the workload, obviously) even longer than my much more recent Tuxedo laptop made specifically with Linux in mind...
Did you install any Linux distro on your Chromebook ?
I did play around with Chrome OS just to see what it was all about but I didn't like the idea of everything being cloud-based, so yeah I installed Linux shortly after. At the time, Chromebooks were relatively new and weren't very well supported overall, and the only real choice was Gallium OS.
This Linux distribution was aimed at Chromebooks specifically, but as support for these devices got better, it became discontinued. Still, their documentation is still up and you can follow it to know what to do to be able to install a custom OS on a Chromebook, if anything, based on the model.
As I recall, I had to remove a specific screw that enabled read-write operations on certain portions of the flash storage. Otherwise, you couldn't overwrite the OS itself. But it's really easy, literally one screw.
Ah, yes, it was to flash a custom firmware. I wonder if this step is still needed today, though.
Thank you.
fydeOS is ChromeOS without Google services.
