Hello, I am using Linux for the first time and I switched to Zorin Os based on recommendations. I am very satisfied. The laptop I use (Lenovo Legion 5) has a single jack input. Although I can hear the sound from the headset I plug in there, I cannot use the microphone. I never had such a problem in Windows. When I installed the Nvidia audio driver, it transmitted normal sound. Can you help me, I don't want to go back to Windows just because of this problem
Welcome to the Forum!
So, Your Headset has an included Mic, yes? It is not an extra One?
One Point where You could start is in the Settings in the Audio Menu. There You have Input and Output. You could check there if Your Mic is liested.
Another Option is PulseAudio Control. It is a Program for set up Audio Input and Output. You can install it with the Terminal Command sudo apt install pavucontrol
First of all thank you. Yes my headset has an included mic. I already installed PulseAudio doesn't work thou
When Your Headset in connected, is Your Mic even recognized?
Open a terminal window by hitting: Ctrl+Alt+T
type: alsamixer
Hit F5 to show "All" audio channels.
Check if any show as [MM] i.e. muted. Pan to muted channel and hit M to unmute.
You could look for "Auto-mute" channel and disable
You could also have a play with "Loopback" disable or enable and see any effect.
If you find a working alsamixer setting, save it using:
sudo alsactl store
Sometimes sound problems are difficult and illogical to solve, so you may need to play around with settings and try different things.
