Microsoft Outlook & Hotmail on Linux

Hi,
I'm new to Zorin (although I used Ubuntu at work about 8 years ago). I've been using Macs as my primary computer and Hotmail as my primary email for 28 years and currently use the Microsoft Outlook app on my MacBook Pro. Is there any way to read my Hotmail on Zorin 17.3? There was a discussion on this, but it was closed in 2022. I tried setting it up using Evolution, but keep getting an error message "Failed to authenticate. IMAP Server said BYE Connection is closed. 13" Does Thunderbird work? I'm not familiar with Thunderbird, but have been told it's very clunky and user-unfriendly.
Thanks for your help !!

On Zorin core you should be able to find in the Settings app an area for Accounts. From there, you can add your accounts (outlook, hotmail, gmail etc) which will get added to the system. So that would then pull in that information into Evolution and you shouldn't need to setup anything for your account emails to then start showing up that app.

Thanks for the information. I DID see that during setup but I guess it didn't register on my consciousness ... Universe shouts "NOOB"!!

The universe says welcome to Zorin OS, an OS for you, not for a corporations pocket books.

Yep, thats right, setup your email account in settings...

I prefer Thunderbird to Evolution for email and calendar.

For Hotmail/Outlook, you have to setup account login using OAuth. ref: Microsoft OAuth Authentication and Thunderbird in 2024 | Thunderbird Help

Also I would recommend the following extensions to Thunderbird, if you have Hotmail/Outlook:

  • Provider for Exchange ActiveSync
  • TbSync
