Microsoft Word will start saving to OneDrive by default

This is sick and disgraceful. Total power trip move by Microsoft. Very anti-consumer. Makes me grateful for alternatives like Linux (e.g., Zorin, Debian, Linux Mint). Link: Microsoft wants your Word docs in the cloud, no questions | Windows Central

I have used Windows from version 95 up to and including Windows 11. Windows 11 wasn't bad at first and served me well as my daily operating system for a long time. But over time, various changes made it increasingly unusable. It was precisely constraints such as the cloud, AI tools, etc. that triggered my switch to Linux—today I use Zorin OS and am sticking with it.

I don't have to use windows outside of work (which... I guess is a lot actually, but I just try to block it out) and the amount of issues onedrive gives us when it comes to versions of documents that some people did or did not mean to have in their onedrives, is too many.

It will often either try to create a different version tree in onedrive vs locally stored (which is what we generally do) and thus when you're trying to access a certain version, can cause a whole host of errors because it then tries to also think hey, you should actually be opening THIS version in onedrive, because it's newer (even though it's not).

God do I hate it. I just want my file to be my file, and I personally create versions when I need them. I do not want more of this.

Yes, thats the difference between the past and now. In the past, consumers controlled their Windows experience. Now days, its all about Microsoft controlling the Windows experience.

If our government actually had a spine, and wasn't being paid off by a multi billion dollar corporation, they would go after Microsoft for breaking anti-trust violations, on the account they became a monopoly all over again. It doesn't matter they went after them 40-years ago, if you don't enforce the laws, history will repeat themselves.

I never thought I'd see the day, when I could say the Apple is a better company. People would be far better using Apple notebook computer's, if not using Linux OS, thats how bad Windows has become!

This type of Defaults and Soft-Blocking is just like Gnome has been doing for years on GnuLinux.
