Mouse stops working

I have been using Surfshark for years. Suddenly when it connects the buttons on my mouse and track pad cease to function meaning I can't do anything. My problem is Surfshark is configured to auto start and auto connect. I cannot get to it fast enough on boot up to turn it off before things lock up. Any ideas?

Do You have a 2nd Mouse? You could connect it to check if it behaves different.

OK I was able to get in and turn off surfshark. Everything worked OK for about five minutes then mouse and track pad buttons stopped working. Tried different and wired and wireless mouse in different usb ports. No joy. I am sending this from my iPhone because I can't use my computer.

Can You get in BIOS? If yes check if there is some Setting for USB enabling/disabling.

I think I might have fixed this problem. In another forum I found a post showing that this is a known bug that was reported to the Gnome Software developer. The problem exactly is in the fwupd package. To solve the problem is to remove fwupd: sudo apt remove fwupd sudo killall fwupd. I did that and my mouse problems appear to be solved.
