I have an issue with the Mullvad VPN GUI tray icon. I installed it using (Mullvad VPN for Linux). However, the tray icon does not show up correctly. It is supposed to show up as a green lock, but instead it shows up like something else. However, if I lock the computer, and then unlock it, then the icon will show up correctly.
Please see attached image.
Is there a way for me to fix this behavior? If not, where can I report the bug to the ZorinOS developers?
This is due to a problem with the Zorin AppIndicator extension. This has been known for quite some time now (since Zorin OS 17, at least). The Zorin Group has not fixed it; not even for Zorin OS 18. What worked for me before was to simply disable the AppIndicator extension (to make the icon go away). This was one of the smaller reasons why I left Zorin OS in the end. I'm on MX Linux 25 now.
I will not consider a return to Zorin OS until Artyom and Kyrill fix the OS properly, and institute a proper Q&A process so to iron out bugs before major milestone OS releases (e.g., versions 19, 20, et cetera). Consider turning the AppIndicator extension off, and living with it that way, OR just switch to another OS (like Linux Mint or MX Linux, for example). Good luck. Please let us know what you do.
This seems to be a general problem, not restricted to your VPN software - for example I had the same problem with the Dropbox menu (see this post), you can only see it after locking and unlocking. I think this is a problem with Ubuntu as well, see this and this.
Not sure what the exact problem is but it is annoying and I hope they fix it!
I recently updated my computer and restarted it. I no longer seem to have this problem with the Mullvad VPN icon. However, since I updated multiple packages, including mullvad vpn itself, I do not know if the issue was fixed by Mullvad VPN or by one of the other packages that I updated.
