Hi and welcome.
Afraid I cheated and used Brave A.I. via Mojeek to search for an answer for you. Note that Zorin 18 is a fork of Ubuntu 24.04, the latter is what I used in my search criteria:
" HDMI output issues on Lenovo IdeaPad S145 running Ubuntu 24.04 are typically resolved by installing the proprietary NVIDIA drivers rather than seeking specific "HDMI drivers," as the port is hardwired to the discrete GPU.
Recommended Solutions:
- Install Proprietary Drivers : Open Software & Updates > Additional Drivers and select the recommended proprietary NVIDIA driver (e.g.,
nvidia-driver-535). Ubuntu may default to open-source drivers which often fail to detect HDMI outputs on hybrid graphics laptops. - Disable Secure Boot : Secure Boot can prevent unsigned kernel modules (like NVIDIA drivers) from loading. Enter the BIOS/UEFI settings and disable Secure Boot to allow the drivers to function correctly.
- Update BIOS : An outdated BIOS firmware can cause hardware detection failures. Use
fwupdmgrto check for and install the latest BIOS updates from Lenovo. - Verify Hardware : Ensure the HDMI cable is functional, as defective cables are a common cause of "not detected" errors.
If the system freezes when switching to the NVIDIA profile, try booting with nvidia-drm.modeset=1 in the GRUB configuration or reinstalling the driver via sudo apt install nvidia-driver-535 .
