My Radeon 6600XT has intermittent freezing in the internal driver

I'm new to ZorinOS on a Radeon 6600xt device.

The UI is clean, but there is a bug where the OS occasionally freezes when moving tabs in any browser based on Firefox or Chrome.

This appears to be an issue with the internal graphics driver, and while zorinos recommends using the internal driver instead of AMD's proprietary driver, this intermittent freezing has been very annoying for me.

Installing the proprietary driver makes the problem go away, but using Wayland causes large black lines around some programs.

Using X11 solves the problem, but I hate X11 and want to use wayland.

How can I use waylands without any problems?

Unfortunately, Wayland is hated by many and maybe you can't get enough support. :upside_down_face:

I am not comfortable with the X/Wayland conflict, but it is also true that Wayland does not work properly on my hardware. I am facing Wayland problems on my AMD graphics machine as well. Probably, there is no easy solution to this problem.

I have a Radeon RX 6600 and use Wayland. No problems here. And I just tried moving tabs around in Chrome, too. No freezing or anything like that. What is your kernel version? Mind you, I do not have the XT version of the RX 6600. Just the RX 6600. I am on kernel version "Linux 6.5.0-35-generic x86_64." Maybe you ought to try upgrading your kernel? Give this a look: CLICK HERE. I suggest you use the GUI method. Update your kernel to the latest stable one, and see what happens. Be sure to uninstall the proprietary driver, too. See what happens in Wayland then. Good luck, and please report back here with the result. Thanks.

In fact, raising the kernel version to 6.9.2 seems to have fixed the problem for now. We'll keep an eye on it for a bit longer.

Excellent; glad to know the problem appears to be resolved (for now, anyway). If it continues to seem to be OK, please come back and mark my post as the solution. Thanks, and happy gaming on Zorin OS.
