My zorin Pro is very slow to load apps

I love Zorin. I have a good gaming PC with Windows 11. But the simplicity of Zorin is the best for me. So I installed the system in dual boot. I created a partition on a secondary disk ssd that I have on my PC. Zorin starts up normal. But when I click on an app to open it is very slow. For example, the browser takes almost a minute to open. Can you help me? I am new to the Linux world and I installed Zorin specifically to learn this splendid operating system. But I'm new and don't have any experience. Thank you all

I don't know if it's important. When Zorin starts up, the screen resolution changes 3 times in a row. This is strange to me. My graphics card is nvidia geforce RTX 3060.

PLease open the terminal and provide us with these informations:

sudo apt install inxi
inxi -Ga
echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

ok

anyway I tried to install zorin on a new hard disk without nvidia video drivers. the problem remains the same. I also tried installing the core and light versions but nothing changes. when I open an app the system is very slow to load. then it works fine...

comunque ho provato a installare zorin su un nuovo hard disk senza driver video nvidia. il problema resta lo stesso. ho anche provato ad installare la versione core e light ma non cambia nulla. quando apro un app il sistema é molto lento a caricare. poi funziona bene...

Welcome to the Forum!

Are You using the 6.8 Kernel? You can check that with the Terminal Command uname -r

If yes, go to the GRUB Menu and choose there the ''Advanced Options'' Menu Entry and there choose the 6.5 Kernel to start. And then test if the Problem still exists.

I have : 6.8.0-40-generic

Alternative : 6.5.0-38

however, changing the kernel the problem remains.

when I tried zorin on pendrive, he was very fast. this is strange.

You are using the Nvidia 550 Driver, aren't You? You could try the 535 Driver instead.

yes, I can try. but the problem can't be with the hard disk? I did a test. at the beginning the speed of the disc is at maximum but then it drops quickly. Maybe I made a mistake in configuring the hard disk for the installation? I haven't problem with monitor or graphics.

Hard Disk? You mean HDD? In Your first Comment You wrote that You have Zorin installed on a SSD:

yes, that's correct. I installed Zorin by making a partition on a secondary SSD hard disk. I created the partition in windows and left the space empty. then, using the zorin installer I formatted the dedicated space in ext4 and put / as an option. then I went ahead to install the operating system.

Windows and Zorin however are not on the same hard disk but each operating system has its own. I hope I wasn't wrong.

This is a key indicator and I think your logic is sound. This looks a lot like communication between the system and the SSD is the culprit. That on the pendrive it works quickly, but not the SSD regardless of all the things you have tried - something is probably going on with the SSD.

Is Secure Boot enabled or disabled in your BIOS settings?
In your BIOS settings, is everything default? Have you checked your BIOS Firmware for updates?
You can use smartmontools and smartctl to run a S.M.A.R.T. test on your drive and you can use hdparm to check I/O and read speed.
For example, if your SSD is an nVME on partition One:

sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/nvme0n1

Yes, that sounds so far right. I was only irritated by ''Hard Disk''.

What for a CPU and RAM do You have?

Before You set up the Dual-Boot System did You had Performance Issues like that here?

thank you ponce de lion. I found the problem. this was the bios not updated. if I worked with Windows I had no problem but with Zorin everything was slow. I ran the bios update and now everything works fine. I thank you !
