Gnome likes integration.
I wouldn't remove it. Instead, just log in on the preferred desktop and let Gnome sit in the corner.

Yes that works perfectly as I have Cinnamon DE (daily driver) .... Gnome and Xfce all installed and just choose the one I want while in the login screen before I login ....
