I’ve been trying to set up face recognition authentication on my Zorin OS system but haven’t had success despite following multiple guides. Here’s my setup and issue:
System Details:
Device: OptiPlex 4700 All-in-One
Webcam: Supports, MJPG and YUYV ONLY
Zorin OS Version:17.3
What I’ve Tried:
Followed tutorials to install Howdy (Linux auth alternative to Windows Hello).
Confirmed webcam works with cheese/fswebcam, but Howdy fails to detect it.
Tested different v4l2 configurations, but the camera either isn’t recognized or throws errors like:
Some people here in the forum have probably already tried to set up Howdy, but have often failed. It seems not to work properly.
I have read that even if the setup works, using facial recognition does not unlock the keyring, so you still have to enter your password to unlock the keyring or you have to disable the keyring.
For safety & security, I do not use facial recognition. Unless you really need to use facial rec over thumb print unlock, or password unlock, I'd recommend against.
