I am currently looking for a place to download the standard ZorinOS style folders (Adwaita theme), but with different color options. I actually really like the Adwaita theme, but the color options for the folders are pretty awful. Perhaps I'm missing something, but I can only find a handful of color options with the base OS, and none of them are good. I was also looking for a really colorful folder option that's basically a gradient of all of the colors (similar to the Candy theme), but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know where to find these folders?
Can you please clarify if you are looking for a directory (folder) on your computer; or looking for recommendations on an Adwaita-like Icon set that is colorful to download?
I'm just looking for a folder icon set that I can download (preferable as image files), so I can manually change my desktop icons. I would prefer to find icons that are the same style as the Adwaita, but with more color options to choose from.
I know I am probably being difficult, but I will first ask have you checked the "popular" sets:
Tela Icons
Zorin Icons are very similar to Paper Icons, I believe.
There is also Yaru and Numix/ Numix Circle.
So you like the Adwaita icons but you just want to change the color of this (and its different states) to a colorful gradient, but not change anything else? (I feel I must warn you the graphic they use for an html file is abhorrent.)
On the gradient, do you only want to use colors within the Adwaita palette? On Zorin Appearance are you using Adwaita on both Applications and Icons, or just Icons and a Zorin color scheme?
I am just asking to clarify in case someone can help you find what you are looking for. Maybe randomly running into it while they search for their own themes.
Maybe this one is something for You?
There You can choose what Color the Folders have.
These are all great suggestions, but I'm really only looking for one particular folder that's basically a blend of a few colors, but keeps the style of the standard icon theme. I'm looking to find an icon that's a blend of pink, blue, and purple (or something similar). I'll include sample images of what I mean.
I want it to look something like this, but with the other folder style.
Perhaps you should start learning Inkscape?
I'm hoping this already exists in another theme somewhere.
I really think @Storm is right on this... Learning to modify it using Inkscape (for .svg) or GIMP (for raster including .png) is your best route.
Your desire is very specific and performing the modifications yourself will train you in a new art.
Learning something new ay seem daunting; but like riding a bike, usually is nowhere near as scary as it looked. Before long, you are creating with confidence wondering why you ever resisted it.
There are many ways I can think of that I might do this. I might create the gradient color scheme, then overlay a transparency of the folder over it and remove the edges of that background.
Or the reverse, use the folder as the background and create an opaque alpha layer of the gradient and lay that on top of the folder.
Or, in GIMP, just transition the existing color of the original colder using the gradient tool. There are many ways - so this allows many easy paths you can explore.
I say Go For It.
Fair enough. I think i'll give that a go. Thanks!
Here's what I came up with!
I think, it looks nice like the one's above. The Question is: Is it like You want it to have?
That was quick...
We didn't even get to coach you on plugins or where to find things in the menus.
I am ashamed of myself.
I appreciate all the help regardless. I just watched a video on YouTube and clicked around for a few minutes. It was easy enough to to figure out the basics.
It is! This is exactly what I had in mind.
When I typed above an encouragement to "go for it" I specifically avoided saying, "It's easy."
I have noticed that many people actually get more resistant when this is said.
I was trying to figure out how to post what I was trying to say without saying what I wanted to say.
It looks great!
Thanks! It was actually kind of fun!
I know what you mean, I love Inkscape.
Well if I'm soon requesting custom color folders, I don't know if you should blame @Storm for the suggestion or @Aravisian for the encouragement.
